Oral History in Castlemilk

This month we were delighted to start an oral history project with lovely people in partnership with Cassiltoun Housing Association. Their idea is to collate a ‘People’s History of Castlemilk’, gathering up the memories of community members old and new.

To do that, we’ll build on the skills we discussed in our ‘Be The Media’ sessions, where we chatted about using smartphones to tell our own stories, whether that’s photos, videos or sound recordings. The oral history project will extend that, as our group will aim to tell the story of the whole community!

It’s a fabulous (and slightly sneaky) way of showing how people can wield digital skills with genuine power to take charge of the narrative. All too often, folk are disempowered because they don’t have the knowledge, confidence, device or connection they need to be in control of their lives. We’re hoping this project is one wee element that can help make all that history!
